The government advises Norwegian citizens to avoid unnecessary travel abroad.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against any travel abroad that is not absolutely necessary. Although exceptions have been made for the Schengen and EEA areas with an acceptably low level of infection (so-called green countries), the government continues to recommend Norwegian citizens to avoid unnecessary travel abroad.

All travelers from high-infected countries / areas (Red countries) must be quarantined for 10 days.

The Travel Council reduces the risk of infection of people living in Norway abroad and of the transmission of the infection to Norway by travelers. Stay informed of the number of infections before your trip, both where you live and where you will be traveling. Also follow the advice on infection control. Remember that both the infection situation and the infection control advice can change quickly.

. What to do if the country you live in is or will be "red"?

Countries can turn "red" when traveling, even if they were "green" when they left. If the country you want to go to exceeds the XNUMX people infected limit, it may turn red.

The final decision on which countries will be "red" is made by the government on the basis of recommendations from the Norwegian Health Directorate and the National Institute of Public Health.

As a rule, the map is updated on Fridays, and changes take effect at 00.00.

What to do if you are coming to Norway from a red country?

  • You should wear a mask or face mask when you return home
  • You will be quarantined for 10 days from the day you arrive in Norway
  • You should stay at home or some other convenient place to stay
  • You should not go to work, school, or kindergarten during quarantine, but you can work from home
  • You shouldn't be using public transport
  • You can go out, but keep sufficient distance from others you may meet
  • You should get help with shopping and other important responsibilities outside the home
  • If you cannot get help from others, you should go to the store, etc. When there are few people there
  • Wash your hands thoroughly and often
  • Pay close attention to symptoms
  • Get coronavirus tested if symptoms appear

Violation of the quarantine obligation is punishable.

. What to do if you are coming to Norway from a green country?

The government has decided that travel quarantine exemptions are granted upon entry into Norway from EU / EEA / Schengen regions and countries that have a sufficiently low spread of infection. These areas are marked on green on the FHI overview map .

If you come from green countries, the following applies:

  • You don't need to be quarantined
  • Pay close attention to symptoms
  • Stay home if you feel sick
  • Get coronavirus tested if symptoms appear
  • Keep your distance from others
  • Wash your hands thoroughly and often
  • You cannot visit the hospital or nursing home until the 10 days are up.
  • If you work in the healthcare sector and work close to you, FHI recommends that you take a test before resuming work.
  • Testing may be considered locally if you are employed in the health care sector without working in close proximity to a patient. Check this with your employer.

What happens if I come from a "red" country but don't live in Norway?

Persons who are not residents of Norway and are subject to quarantine obligations must, upon arrival in Norway, present a document proving their uninterrupted stay at one and the same registered address in Norway for the first 10 days in the country. In the case of stays shorter than 10 days, the documentation is valid for the entire period during which the person is to stay in the country. The documentation obligation does not apply to persons residing in Norway.

What should I do if I land at an airport in Norway and fly to another destination in the country?

Healthy people who come to Norway from the "red areas" without symptoms, they may fly to their destination to be quarantined in their own home.

People z symptoms may be taken to the place of residence as instructed by a physician, eg in a private car. An emergency solution is to place the person in quarantine in the municipality where the airport is located.

Can I travel in the "red" area without having to quarantine?

It is possible to drive your own vehicle or tourist bus through an area with increased infection (the so-called "red" area) on the way to Norway without having to undergo an entry quarantine. The condition is that you will not spend the night in the "red" place, you will take care of your hand hygiene throughout the journey and will keep your distance if you have to stop.

Can I stay in the "red" area without having to quarantine?

Not. In the case of stops in the red zone, you must be quarantined for 10 days. Violation of the quarantine obligation is punishable.

Do medical personnel who come from "green" areas outside Norway have to be tested when they return home?

The National Institute of Public Health recommends that healthcare workers who have been in 'green' areas outside Norway and work with patient-centered work should undergo a test before resuming work. This applies to all employees, including new employees and temporary employees.
