A year ago, on November 14, it was put into circulation new 1000 kroner banknote. Old banknotes are in circulation for a year after the introduction of the new banknotes - but now the deadline is slowly passing. On November 14, 2020, old banknotes with a denomination of NOK 1000 will expire.
This means that the last day of using old banknotes in the store is November 13. From November 14, they are invalid as payment. This means that in Poland you will not exchange them for zlotys.
But there are still many old-style banknotes in circulation:
According to Norges, the Bank still has 4,7 million old banknotes worth NOK 1000 in circulation.
"Norges Bank is encouraging the public to use the old NOK 1000 banknote or deposit it with the bank before November 14," says Leif Veggum, director of Cash and Cash Equivalents at Norges Bank.
. You can exchange them at the bank
Veggum further states that if you are unsure where you can make a bank deposit, you can contact your bank.
If you don't, or the banknotes in other denominations have expired recently, you can exchange them for free at Norges Bank for ten years after they have left circulation, says Veggum.
Usually, expired banknotes can be exchanged in person at Norges Bank in Oslo, Bergen, Stavanger, Trondheim and Tromsø. But it is temporarily unavailable now.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, we only accept payments by post - reminds Veggum.
To do this, you need to print out the invalid banknote and coin exchange form from the Norges Bank website, complete it, put it in an envelope with your money and mail it to Norges Bank.
