On Tuesday, February 2, 207 people were registered wholly unemployed, partly unemployed and jobseekers.

The number of jobseekers has increased mainly in Viken and Oslo

- The number of jobseekers is now at the same level as at the beginning of September. This is due to a new tightening of infection control measures in November to early January. Recently in Oslo and large parts of Viken. Recently, the number of job seekers has increased mainly in Viken and Oslo. At the same time, there have been little changes in the rest of the country, says Hans Christian Holte, director of labor and social services.

According to preliminary data, 127 people are registered as completely unemployed in NAV. This represents 300% of the workforce. Gross unemployment, which is the sum the number of people who are completely unemployed and looking for work according to activities, is 142 people. Gross unemployment currently represents 500 percent of the labor force.

In addition, 64 people are registered as partially unemployed. This is 800 more than last week. In total, 2200 people are registered as jobseekers with NAV, which is 207% of the workforce.

Increased number of job seekers

Over the past week, 11 jobseekers have registered with NAV. This is 400 more than in the previous week.

- The advent of the British strain of the virus in Nordre Follo and the subsequent measures in large parts of Viken and Oslo resulted in many new layoffs, especially in retail. At the same time, you can expect many of them to get back to work quickly when shopping centers and other businesses that have now had to close can reopen, says director of Labor and Social Services, Hans Christian Holte.

New applications for unemployment benefit

The number of new unemployment benefit applications sent to NAV has increased. In the fourth week, NAV received 13 new applications for unemployment benefits. The percentage of applications for unemployment benefits due to dismissal was 800%.

- We have to go back to April last year to find a week in which NAV only received a few applications for unemployment benefits, says Holte

Most of the unemployment benefit claims came from people who worked in retail (5300), housing and catering (2200) and business services (1100). About two out of three applications for unemployment benefits have been received by Oslo and Viken. This has to be seen in the light of an infection outbreak in Nordre Follo and subsequent infection control measures.

NAV has received many applications for unemployment benefits from people working in retail over the last week. However, there are also many young people working in this industry who work part-time and are often not entitled to unemployment benefits. This contributes to the fact that our figures do not reflect the full impact of what is currently happening in retail in eastern Norway, says Hans Christian Holte, director of labor and social services.
