What about the World Cup and other events?

Yesterday the government maintained very restrictive entry restrictions until February 28. The current situation with the coronavirus pandemic and several local outbreaks of its mutant variant is demanding. Accordingly, the government has decided not to introduce entry restrictions and quarantines for international events sports.

This includes Nordic, Biathlon and Alpine World Cup competitions, as well as international handball and soccer matches.

It is not advisable to make exceptions

- I was hoping to be able to make preparations for the March World Cup events, which would go according to plan. The pandemic situation indicates that today it is not advisable to introduce exceptions for entry and quarantine in connection with events - says the Minister of Culture and Gender Equality Abid Q. Raja

When is the new assessment of the situation?

By March 1, a reassessment will be carried out as to whether the exceptions and waivers for these events can be reinstated. The assessment should be seen in conjunction with work to further develop changes to the general rules for entry and quarantine.

This could mean that the World Cup has to be canceled

- The government agrees that the ski association and biathlon association probably cannot wait until March 1 for a new evaluation, and this could most likely mean that the World Cup must be canceled due to the lack of an exemption from entry and quarantine regulations, says Health Minister Bent Høie.
