Already next week in Oslo, new and very burdensome restrictions may appear.

Oslo city councilor Raymond Johansen (Labor) warns that new measures will be introduced in the capital early next week. The city council is discussing both the ban on private meetings and the closure of schools in the city.

- In the current situation, we are looking at all the possibilities of what we can do. There are 14 days left until Easter, and we have a high infection in Oslo, which we must manage to suppress by then, says Johansen.

In the last 24 hours, 223 new cases of infection were registered in Oslo. In the last seven days, 1883 people are said to be infected, almost a 50 percent increase over the previous seven-day period.

- We are now in the third wave of coronavirus infection in Oslo. This is a more serious wave than before, because it consists mainly of an imported British variant of the coronavirus, says Johansen.

The city council is in close contact with NIPH and the Norwegian Health Directorate, and any new measures will be introduced early next week, says the chairman of the city council.

That's it  TV2 was the first  said the city council was considering banning social gatherings.

Johansen looks worriedly at Easter, which now only has 14 days left.

We can't do it like this to leave

During the pandemic, Oslo City Council has strived to stay open schools and kindergartens. When the infection is increasing rapidly among students, Johansen says closing them could be significant.

He is also concerned about the Easter holidays and has a clear appeal to parents in the capital.

- It cannot be that there are many young people who are alone at home in Oslo. At the same time, we know that there is a surge in infections in this group, which we are very worried about, he says.

Johansen says 90 percent of those who tested positive in the capital are now infected with the British mutant strain.
