According to the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, the government continues to control people on the Norwegian internal border. Controls are carried out to limit the spread of Covid-19. This has led to a significant reduction in cross-border traffic, especially towards Sweden.

The government decided to continue controls on the internal border

- As the level of infection in Norway and Europe is high, the government has decided to continue the internal border control, which was introduced in March 2020. We are constantly assessing the need for this control - says Minister of Justice and Crisis Management Monica. Mæland.

The checks show who must go through hotel quarantine

It should be emphasized that border control means that it is checked whether travelers may be allowed to enter Norway. The checks also show who has to go through hotel quarantine.

- Entry conditions can change quickly. Therefore, travelers need to stay up to date with border crossing regulations. Even though more people are getting vaccinated, which means we can open up more and more, we still need to be prepared for border controls, says Monica Mæland.

The need for border controls is assessed on an ongoing basis

W March 2020 Norway reintroduced personal border control as a measure to limit the spread of Covid-19. The need for this measure is assessed on an ongoing basis. The government has decided that the measures will continue and, in line with our commitments, will inform the EU.
