The government allocates a pool of money of NOK 500 million for the "summer school". Municipalities can use it to create new "summer school" offers or expand existing offers. A total of 228 municipalities applied for and received subsidies. As part of the "summer school" offer, primary school students will be able to participate in academic, social and cultural activities in the summer of 2021. These funds may also be used for offers during the holidays autumn.

The "summer school" will complement the professional, social and cultural aspects of primary school students

-In the last year, many students received a school offer that was not of the same quality as in the normal school year. The "summer school" will be a professional, social and cultural complement for primary school students. Municipalities have a lot of freedom in shaping the local offer based on their preconditions, says Guri Melby, Minister of Education and Integration.

The expanded offer of "summer schools" will also enable the creation of many summer jobs

The target group is primary school students living in the commune. This applies to both students of municipal primary schools and students of private and independent schools. The expanded offer of 'summer schools' will also enable the creation of many summer jobs for students and older young people across the country. The municipalities receive funding on a voluntary basis, and the government assumes that the grant-funded summer school offers are free for students.
