- I am glad that large sums are still being invested in the further development of the digital foundation in Norway. This means that more and more residents and businesses will have access to the fast broadband networks and high-speed networks cellular phones. The government has set itself the goal that by the end of 2025, 100% of households and companies will have access to fast broadband connection, says Minister of Digital Affairs Linda Hofstad Helleland.

The data shows record high investments in the electronic communication market

The National Communications Authority (Nkom) presented economic statistics for 2020. The data shows record high investments in the electronic communications market. In 2020, a total of NOK 12,6 billion was invested in this market, which was 36 percent. total turnover. This means that more than one in three crowns traded are invested back in the market.

“There is still a need for large investments to ensure that all residents have broadband access of satisfactory quality,” says Nkom's director Pål Wien Espen.

More than half, i.e. NOK 6,9 billion, has been invested in fiber-optic networks. In 2020, the government will facilitate 5G coverage along important major communication arteries

Last year's large investments are divided mainly into fixed-line and mobile networks. More than half of the investment, i.e. NOK 6,9 billion, was invested in fiber networks in 2020. Investments in mobile networks amounted to NOK 2,2 billion, of which the development of 5G - a new generation cellular network - NOK 790 million. A total of NOK 2016 billion was invested in mobile networks between 2020 and 7,7.

Despite lower prices on the market, few people change their mobile operator.

– We also note that despite lower prices in the market, the two main mobile service providers, Telenor and Telia, are largely able to retain their customers and maintain very high profitability. This makes achieving effective competition in the mobile market difficult, and we see that in Norway mobile phone prices are still high compared to our neighboring countries, says Espen.
