The fall in road fatalities from 2020 to 2021 is close to 40 percent
This year, 29 people have died in traffic so far, compared with 46 in the first half of last year.
– The decline in the number of victims is very satisfying fatal accidents road traffic in the first six months of the year. But every one fatality in road traffic that's still one too many, says Guro Ranes, director of the traffic safety department at the Norwegian Public Roads Administration.

In June this year on Four people died on Norwegian roads, compared to nine in June last year. Ranes emphasizes that these are preliminary numbers.
– The positive trend in the number of deaths this year is a continuation of the decline we have been observing for many years. This is a development that we appreciate and is the result of many factors: better roads, safer cars, better driving training, more people obeying speed limits and many others. At the same time that we've seen a decline in the number of deaths, we've seen this past year number increase seriously injured. This reminds us that the work to reduce the number of serious road traffic accidents is far from over, says Guro Ranes.

Among the provinces (fylke), Viken has the most deaths in first half year, with 6 deaths. They are followed by Innlandet (5) and Troms and Finnmark (5). At the opposite end of the scale is Oslo and Nordland, where there are no road fatalities in the first half of the year. The numbers for the remaining voivodeships are as follows: Vestfold and Telemark 4, Agder 1, Rogaland 1, Vestland 3, Møre og Romsdal 1, Trøndelag 3. This year marks 20 years since "Vision Zero" (Nullvisjonen) was discussed in the Storting for the dead and seriously injured in road traffic. Zero vision is the vision that in there will be no accidents with fatalities in road traffic or serious injuries.
