The government has decided that foreign students will be exempt from entry restrictions from August 1. This means that foreign students and pupils with a place of study or a place in a school in a Norwegian educational institution can travel to Norway as planned.

We wanted to clarify this now so that the students could start planning their arrival

- Hello students and students from abroad in August. We wanted to clarify this now so that the students could start planning their arrival. Although we are now opening to their arrival in August, they still have to follow the rules that apply to quarantine and testing, says Minister for Research and Higher Education Henrik Asheim.

Since the government imposed strict entry restrictions on January 29, 2021, it is virtually impossible for foreign students to enter Norway. Improving the infection situation and the fact that more and more people are vaccinated have allowed entry restrictions to be eased.

Even if entry is facilitated, they will still be subject to the current rules for testing, entry registration, quarantine and any quarantine hotels

- I am glad that we can now open up to foreign students and pupils, but we are not there yet. Even if entry is facilitated, they will still be subject to the current rules for testing, entry registration, quarantine and any quarantine hotels, says Minister of Justice and Crisis Management Monica Mæland.

The general rules for entry visas and residence permits in Norway still apply. This means that students and pupils who receive a place to study or a place at a school in a Norwegian educational institution must normally apply for a residence permit through the Norwegian Office. Immigration before they can come to Norway. Down current entry The rules that were introduced in the wake of the pandemic will protect against contamination of imports and new mutations of viruses and will vary depending on the country you come from Norway.

The Ministry of Education and Research expects universities and colleges to pay the deduction for quarantined hotels for foreign students coming to Norway for the first time.

The changes will take effect on August 1
