In late July, the National Institute of Public Health believed that infection rates would rise, but would not come close to their March highs.

Last week, there were 8217 cases of infection, compared with the previous record week in March when there were 6515 cases.

Line Vold's department director at FHI, however, says growth will stop and things will eventually turn around.

Norway-Infection indicators

– Development is the result of a balance between factors that favor and inhibit the spread of infection. Vaccinations are increasingly inhibiting development, but they will not stop the epidemic itself. An important measure now is testing to find those infected and isolate them. Municipalities are now starting in earnest conducting widespread testing in schools and we believe it will bring good results. Then it is possible that some municipalities will need additional measures to limit contacts.

According to deputy director of health, Espen Nakstad. In a short time, we can even reach three-digit hospital admissions due to Covid-19 infections.

"But I hope we won't hit the same levels as we did last winter when we had our third wave of infection," he adds. For the time being, the resumption has been put on hold in order to be able to carry out more vaccinations, and the government will take a stance on the matter as a whole in the coming time, says Nakstad.
