The Polish government asks President Andrzej Duda to declare a state of emergency in two regions on the border with Belarus. Duda has to agree.

The government will have extended powers to deal with the rise in the number of migrants crossing the border, he writes Reuters .

The border guard estimates that several hundred migrants have illegally crossed the border in the last month. Poland has started building a fence along the border to prevent it from crossing, which they say is facilitated by Belarusian president Alexander Lukashenko in retaliation for EU sanctions.

Border crisis announcement

- The situation at the border is still tense. Lukashenka's regime is pushing these people to Poland, Lithuania and Latvia, trying to destabilize these countries, says Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki.
