During his speech at the Storting, King Harald spoke of the challenges in his working life, especially the need for more people to work in a future welfare state.

King Harald opened the 166th Storting on Tuesday and made the traditional speech, this time the last one under Erna Solberg's reign. The Throne Speech expresses the main lines of the government's work program and policy for the coming year.

Speech by the King of Norway

The king emphasized the climate crisis and inclusion professional life as the most important tasks for the next period.

– Economic activity in Norway is recovering rapidly. There are now more people employed in the population than before the pandemic. Less and less is unemployed. Vacancies are increasing, the king said.

The king also pointed out that more people have to work to finance welfare as the share of oil-related activities declines.

- We already observe a shortage of qualified workforce in several places. It is both a challenge and an opportunity. Challenge because lack of manpower results in less value creation and prosperity in society, an opportunity because there are many more people in our society who can and will work, he said.
