After three consecutive months of decline, retail trade rose 0,5 percent from August to September. This is what the new data from the Norwegian Statistical Office (SSB) shows.
Według Norwegian of the statistical office, one of the biggest factors contributing to the September recovery was the increase in sales of building materials.
- The industry has been characterized by high timber prices in recent months, but from August to September, the prices of some materials that are usually used for home maintenance and repair have fallen, says lead consultant Marie Skjeldås of the Norwegian Statistics Authority.
It points to a 4,7% decrease in the consumer price index for this commodity group.
In addition to building materials, the increase in sales of clothing in September also contributed to the improvement of the economic situation. On the other hand, there has been a decline in grocery stores.
– The decline in grocery and alcohol sales is likely related to the reopening of society. Which means more people are eating and drinking outside in restaurants again. In addition, it is easier to cross the border into Sweden to shop. This affects grocery sales and alcohol here in Norway, says Skjeldås.
