The first recorded death in Norway took place on March 12 last year. Since then, more than 1000 people infected with the coronavirus have lost their lives.
According to the National Institute of Public Health, this figure rose to 1002 on Monday, thus crossing another line in the development of the epidemic.
- I have the greatest sympathy for those who have lost their loved ones - says Minister of Health Ingvild Kjerkol to the NTB.
She reminds us that the pandemic is not over yet, and this shows how important it is for everyone to help contain infection and prevent serious illness.
"Anyone can contribute to getting the vaccine, follow infection control recommendations, stay home and get tested for symptoms," says Kjerkol.
- The vaccine offers good protection against infection and disease, but the effect wears off over time. This is especially true of the elderly. Many of the people admitted to hospitals are elderly people who have been vaccinated in late winter. Therefore, it is very important that older people over the age of 65 now receive the next dose as soon as possible, and I encourage municipalities to give priority to this, says the Minister of Health.
The trend of infections in Norway is increasing. In the last 24 hours, 1470 coronavirus infections were registered in Norway, 314 more than on the same day last week.
In the last seven days, an average of 2055 infections were recorded per day. The corresponding average seven days ago was 1667.
