One in four saw drunk adults with children present at Christmas. According to Av-og-til alcohol organization that people should report when barriers are breached.
- Too many children suffer during the holidays because mum or dad drink too much. For them, late evenings and more time with their parents mean they drink more. Katrine Gaustad Pettersen, Acting Secretary General, says in the press release.
Twenty-four percent of the population say they have seen drunk parents with their children in the past two years, according to a recent study by Ipsos on behalf of Av-og-til.
December is the month when Norwegians drink the most alcohol. Pettersen believes that many people are reluctant to interfere if they see irresponsible behavior in other parents, and believes that adults need to be more open in speaking out.
- Doing something when someone exceeds your sanity can be really inconvenient. The most important thing is to listen to your gut feelings and do something for the baby. Too many children suffer from adults seeing but not reacting, says Pettersen.
Among their advice is to take the child awayto come up with something else to protect them from their drunk parents. According to Pettersen, it's also wise to wait until your parents are sober.
