Norway has received a vaccine supply that can be given to children from five to eleven years of age.
This week, a vaccine with a dose for children was delivered from Pfizer / Biontech. The vaccine will be repackaged and shipped within the next week.
It has yet to be decided whether children under the age of 19 will be offered the COVID-XNUMX vaccine. But there are exceptions for some groups.
– Probability of developing severe coronavirus disease children and adolescents is very small. Nevertheless, some children and young people with particularly serious underlying conditions may benefit from a Covid-19 vaccine, says chief medical officer Margrethe Greve-Isdahl of National Institute of Public Health .
It is estimated that up to 3000 children will now receive the Covid-19 vaccine.
A separate pediatric dose has been developed for children under twelve years of age. They come in vials with ten doses each there will be few children in the communewho will be offered the vaccine. Therefore, vaccinations for children will not be available in all municipalities. However, all counties will have access to vaccine doses in municipalities. These municipalities will offer vaccines to children in their district.
– Parents who want to vaccinate their children can discuss this with their family doctor or pediatrician. It is also important to primary care doctors and pediatricians on their own initiative identified children they thought should be included in the offer, says Greve-Isdahl.
