Two years after 1300 cars were destroyed in a fire in a parking lot at Stavanger Airport. Veidekke has been commissioned to build a new facility.
A fire that broke out in an older diesel car on January 7, 2020, resulted in the destruction of 1300 cars and the demolition of an entire parking garage at Stavanger Airport Sola. The fire was described as the largest car fire in the history of Norway.
On Wednesday, it was announced that Veidekke had won a tender to redevelop a new garage in the same location. The total contract price was set at NOK 360 million.
- The new garage will have 65 thousand. sq m of space on five floors and will accommodate approximately 2300 cars. Like the previous building, the company writes in a press release.
Unlike the old garage, the new garage will be divided into two fire sections and equipped with sprinklers all over the place. Thanks to this, it will be one of the most fireproof garages in Norway.
Construction works will start in January and their completion is scheduled for May 2023.
