Smart sheets, environmentally friendly safety shoes and hydrogen production with carbon dioxide capture are among the projects that will receive support for innovation in December. Through the Research Council, the government has earmarked NOK 780 million this month for 83 innovative projects in the business sector.
- Society will undergo a green transformation and major changes. Undoubtedly to be successful, we need more research and innovation in business. The awards show that there are many good candidates. I am glad that there are so many people across the country who think and develop new ideas, says Trade and Industry Minister Jan Christian Vestre.
- The projects show how collaboration between companies and research institutions can fuel society. They will contribute to the creation of new knowledge and solutions. Undoubtedly, they can provide and create jobs throughout the country, says Ola Borten Moe, Minister of Science and Higher Education.
Innovations in all industries.
An innovation project is a company-led collaboration project with extensive research content. 780 million kronor is distributed as follows:
- 292 million for 24 projects in industry and services, such as processing and goods manufacturing, health, ICT, tourism, media and culture and others
- 260 million NOK for 28 projects that will develop new, environmentally friendly solutions. This includes energy solutions and technology for zero emissions and more efficient energy use,
- 68 million for 11 aquaculture, fisheries and eco-shipping projects
- 43 million for six projects in the agri-food industry,
- 68 million for nine R&D projects in the oil and gas supplier industry
- 50 million out of five projects that aim to introduce radical innovations in areas such as biotechnology, ICT and nanotechnology.
More and more companies will come up with new solutions
The Scientific Council receives more and more applications from companies for support for innovative projects.
Competition for funds is fierce and the trend is clear. More and more companies see research and innovation as the key to creating value for themselves and for society. It is noteworthy that in 2021 we received even more applications than in the record year of 2020. This is a good signal and shows that Norwegian companies have great ambitions for the future, says Mari Sundli Tveit, president of the Research Council.
