The management of Agder Energi Nett has decided to postpone the introduction of a new transmission rental model from January 1, 2022. This decision is a result of the government withdrawing the order to introduce a new network lease system.
The same position regarding the postponement of the introduction of the new system to nearly 1,4 million recipients was also expressed by Elvia and BKK Nett.
The authorities commissioned network companies to introduce a new network lease model
Agder Energi Nett in autumn this year worked on the introduction of a new network lease model from January 1, 2022. It was the authorities who commissioned network companies to introduce a new network lease model to compensate for electricity consumption. Thus, they wanted to keep the network rent as low as possible for the clients. When political uncertainty arises two weeks before the introduction of the new system, it is unfortunate, says Agder Energi Nett CEO. It adds that electricity consumers will be the losers when many network companies decide to postpone the introduction of a new network lease model.
– The new network leasing model does not affect the revenues of network companies, they will still be determined by the authorities. The model will only affect the distribution of network costs among different customer groups. Initial inspection network companies in Norway shows that 50-80 percent of customers will receive unchanged or lower transmission rent. In the new transmission rent model, people with high simultaneous energy consumption will pay slightly more than currently, says Jan Erik Eldor.
The introduction of a new network lease model has been studied for almost 10 years. It also went through three rounds of consultations under the auspices of the NVE, with numerous changes along the way. The Ministry of Petroleum and Energy decided this summer that the new network rent will be introduced from January 1, 2022.
– When we now decide to postpone the introduction due to political uncertainty, it means that more than 200 of our customers will receive new information about new network rental prices in 000, says Jan Erik Eldor. He adds that network companies have also been responsible for calculating and paying subsidies electricity. It will be effective from December 1 and will be visible on customer invoices sent in January.
