In December, the Norwegians had a total consumer debt of NOK 150,1 billion. This is a decrease of 6,8 percent. compared to December of the previous year.

The decrease was NOK 10,9 billion in 2020-2021, following a drop of NOK 12,7 billion a year earlier, according to the latest data from the Debt Register.

- With a view to preventing debt problems, it is positive that the downward trend in consumer debt continued until 2021, says CEO Egil Årrestad in the Debt Register press release.

Total consumer debt increased in November before falling again in December. The debt register office links this to the introduction by the authorities of new measures to limit the spread of the omicron variant of the coronavirus.
