This was confirmed by Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store (Labor Party) and Finance Minister Trygve Slagsvold Vedum (SP).

- We have an energy system that tracks rainfall, filling of tanks with water and the energy situation in Europe. This has led us to an extreme situation lately, with sky-high prices. The market does not consider social issues, but we can do so, says Støre of the increase in support.

When asked whether they were pressured to increase support at the request of the LO and the conservatives, the prime minister replies that he did not.

- The government is already working on it. We listened to people and saw the need for further help, says Støre.

In total, the electricity package from December and the proposed new one is expected to cost NOK 8,9 billion. The increase from 55 percent to 80 percent of the support is two billion kronor.

Indispensable necessity

This is absolutely necessary for the economy of ordinary households, which the government has now heard, according to the consumer organization Huseierne about increased support for electricity.

General Secretary Morten Andreas Meyer of Homeowners believes the improvement is significant.

- We look forward to doing that in Huseierne. The improvement will make electricity bills easier for homeowners in Norway in the coming months, he says.
