High tax revenues in December 2021
Income Stavanger municipality's tax revenue in December was approximately NOK 166 million. This is NOK 123 million more than the same month in 2020 and NOK 70 million more than expected after the last matter in the city council in December. The increase results from both the postponement of the advance payment deadline from November to December and the additional tax payment at the end of the year. This may be due to adjustments related to increased taxation of dividends in 2022.

High tax dynamics also for the country
Total tax increases for municipalities are also much higher than expected. In addition to the subsidies in December, this year's good tax revenues were influenced by, among others: higher residual tax payments and the fact that tax settlements for 2020 paid better than expected for most municipalities. In addition, municipalities were allocated a larger share of tax money in 2021, including: to take into account expected worse economic times during the coronavirus pandemic, including higher unemployment.
National growth in municipalities appears to be around 16%. Final figures appear around January 20.
– Higher income tax than expected should be compared with tax equalization with other municipalities in Norway. As it now looks, the total tax and equalization effect for Stavanger could be NOK 55 million higher than expected in 2021 because we have to pay more to municipalities that are less fiscally strong than us, says CFO Kjartan C. Møller.
For 2022, the Storting significantly lowered some of the tax that goes to municipalities. Therefore, it is expected that the tax revenues of the commune in 2022 will be lower than in 2021.
