High avalanche risk possible on Tuesday and Wednesday in Trollheimen, Nord- and Sør-Trøndelag, Helgeland, Svartisen, Salten, Ofoten, Lofoten and Vesterålen, Sør-Troms, Indre Troms, Lyngen, Tromsø, Nord-Troms and Vest-Finnmark. Many large, naturally induced wet landslides are expected to occur. Some landslides can be very large and reach the road.
The reason is that Tuesday will be mild weather, strong winds and significant rainfall. The advice from an avalanche warning is to keep a sufficient distance from all avalanche terrain. Emergency services are informed and follow the situation.
NVE's avalanche alert duty manager Emma Julseth Barfod explains that conditions will be very unstable in the next few days.
- There was a lot of fresh snow in the last days, combined with strong winds. It settled on an already unstable snow cover with deeper, persistently weak layers. Now we have a change of weather to mild with rain. Therefore, we expect to loosen many large landslides and some very large ones.
A high avalanche risk is also expected on Wednesday
Strong winds and significant rainfall also pose a great avalanche risk on Wednesday. It can naturally loosen very large landslides, but the risk of wet landslides decreases somewhat as temperatures drop on Wednesday.

Significant avalanche risk in western Norway, at Jotunheimen i Finnmarkskysten
In Romsdal, Sunnmøre, Indre Fjordane, Indre Sogn, Voss, Jotunheimen and on the coast of Finnmark, the NVE avalanche alert announces a significant avalanche danger on Wednesday and Thursday. It can naturally loosen large landslides. It is recommended that you avoid terrain with a slope of more than 30 degrees and keep sufficient distance from the exit areas.
