In 2020, there were 106 electric cars per one quick charger in Norway. In 2021, that number rose to 114. The Secretary General of the Electric Car Association, Christina Bu, calls for more development.

- There are more and more electric cars on the roads. Large-scale development is necessary if fast charging is to be simple and accessible, he says.

Last year, 853 new fast chargers were built in Norway, according to data from the Nobil charging station database. This is an increase of 26 percent. compared to the previous year. In total, there are currently 4133 quick chargers in Norway.

For comparison, in 2020, 917 new fast chargers were built in Norway. The development in 2020 gave an increase of 39 percent compared to 2019.

- Many chargers are still under development and that's good. But this year, for the first time in a long time, the number of electric cars per charger is increasing. That gives cause for concern, says Bu.

If we are to achieve Storting's goal to sell only electric cars in the sale of new cars in 2025Bu has a clear appeal to the charging industry and authorities:

Electric car sales is a record high. With more and more electric cars on the road, adequate effort is needed in the development of chargers, he says.

Many people experience queues during loading

Queues last year, according to Elbilisten 2021 *, a study by the Association of Electric Cars among electric drivers. Almost half (47%) of the respondents answered that they had queues for loading always, often or occasionally.

Bu is especially concerned about the Christmas movement.

– We know that many electric drivers will spend their holidays in Norway this summer. Families on vacation like to enjoy "ice cream" in the heat while charging the car. There will always be a queue on departure days, but long queues cause unbearable waiting times. We must avoid spoiling the holiday atmosphere in the charging queue with impatient children in the backseat.

* Facts about «Electric Car 2021». The electric car list is an annual survey conducted by Norwegian Electric Car Association among Norwegian electric car owners. Last year's survey is the tenth in a row and between April 6 and 5, 15 people responded to it. The survey provides answers to, among other things, who are electric car owners, why they chose an electric car, how they use their electric car and how satisfied they are with their electric car.
