– 70 percent of all murders committed in 2021 took place in private homes. Higher kill rate with firearms
Firearms were used in seven murder cases committed in 2021, corresponding to 30 percent of the cases. In 2011-2020, the homicide rate as a result of the use of firearms was 10%. There is no doubt that the percentage of murders with the use of firearms in 2021 was slightly higher than in the previous year. At the same time, small changes will have a relatively large impact on the statistics. Nevertheless, it is something that the police and the general public must follow.
- The pistol was the most common type of firearm, but shotguns were also used in 2021. Four of these killings took place in public, says Syversen.
In seven murders committed with firearms, there were nine victims and ten perpetrators. Five of the victims were closely related to the perpetrator and three of the victims are related to the same case (Svelvik, 6 December). The victims are four women and five men. Four victims were shot in the Oslo Police District, four in the Southeast and one in the Agder Police District.
