In light of this fatal accident, the Norwegian Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends that all elevators be kept on construction sites in this country were also subject to thorough inspection by an expert company or other competent person.

Inspection of construction elevators also recommended in Norway

According to the statement from Norway Labor Inspectorate (Arbeidstilsynet) The results of the accident investigation have not yet been completed. However, Arbeidstilsynet would like to provide general guidance and advice to Norwegian companies using construction elevators.

– The inspection of the installation of such elevators should be carried out by a competent person who was not involved in the installation of the elevator, says Tore Jeppe Sørhaug, department manager at Arbeidstilsynet.

The construction elevator should have an operating manual in Norwegian, which describes the so-called remaining risk to be taken into account by the employer. This information is necessary for the installation, inspection, operation and maintenance of the elevator to ensure its correct operation.

For employee safety

Periodic certified inspection by an expert should be carried out at least every 12 months, or after safety-related events such as overloads, repairs or modifications.

After the accident in Sweden, Arbeidstilsynet recommended that construction elevators be made on Norwegian ones construction sites have been carefully checked by a specialist inspection company or other competent person. You need to make sure they are installed correctly and have undergone the necessary inspection and maintenance.

“The inspection should be carried out so that employees can still be sure that it is safe to use the elevators,” adds Sørhaug.

The employer should also ensure that employees using the elevator have appropriate training. This applies especially to those who are responsible for the necessary inspection and maintenance described in the manufacturer's instructions.

Most construction elevators are used in areas subject to developer regulations. Therefore, the investor should also ensure that the mandatory inspection is coordinated and carried out.
