On Sunday afternoon, train collisions were reported in the town of Skjeberg in Østfold. Police report that two men who were in the car were taken to the emergency room.

Witnesses at the scene say the men were sitting in the car when the train hit, says NTB operations manager Finn Håvard Aas in the eastern police district.

The accident happened at a railroad crossing that was not protected by light, sound or a barrier.

- According to preliminary assessments of the health service on site, the people in the car are not seriously injured, Aas said.

She says an air ambulance was ordered first, but it was canceled. Instead, two people who were in the car were taken to the Sarpsborg emergency room. We're talking about two men in their twenties.

The car has been completely destroyed, but Aas knows nothing of the damage to the train. There were 16 people on the train, but none of them were injured.

The operations manager says the police are opening the case and investigating the incident as an accident. The Østfold western line is closed between Skjeberg and Sarpsborg until further notice.

"How long it takes depends largely on the investigations that the police will carry out on the spot," said press spokesman Harry Korslund, Bane Nora.

We don't know the extent of the damage to the train or rails, but he says they'll investigate carefully before the trains start moving again.
