The theme of this year's public health profiles is quality of life. Published profiles provide information about your health and what affects it.

Public Health Profiles are unique reports for each municipality in the country and for the counties of Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and Stavanger. Profiles provide information on health status and influencing factors, and are the basis of local work to improve public health.

This year's theme is quality of life.

- A good quality of life is a value in itself and promotes health and healthier living habits. A good quality of life also strengthens our resistance to stress. The municipality has the tools to build a society that promotes quality of life, says senior research fellow Ragnhild Bang Nes from the Norwegian Institute of Public Health (FHI).

The quality of life is good but skewed

Quality of life in Norway is good compared to other countries. On a scale of 0 to 10, with 10 being "very satisfied with life", the national average in Norway is usually 7,5.

- The quality of life is unevenly distributed. While most people say their lives are of good quality, some groups experience that their quality is poor, says senior researcher Thomas Hansen of the FHI.

Young people are less happy, more lonely, and more worried than older ones. This is a new trend.

Stress in life affects the quality of life. As a result, the more stress we experience, the worse the quality of life is reported.

This is especially true for those who have financial difficulties, are out of work, are in poor health, are single, or feel they have nothing to rely on, explains senior researcher Thomas Hansen of FHI

Commune tools. What is "Hverdagsgledens fem"

- What can municipalities do to ensure the best possible quality of life for most people?

- The commune can contribute to a good quality of life through its planning work. It should facilitate good education and good living conditions and ensure access to meaningful activities and communities. When designing a municipality's offers and services, it may be useful to ask whether all residents in the municipality have the opportunity to experience "Hverdagsgledens fem" or "Fridays for everyday joy," says senior adviser Maja Eilertsen.

Here are the main activities in "Hverdagsgledens fem":

  • make a bond
  • be aware of
  • be active
  • continue learning
  • to give

- "Daily Joy Five" promotes quality of life and mental health. The "five" can be used by units as well as in planning works in the commune. The municipality can make it easier for residents to use these five measures in their daily lives, emphasizes senior researcher Ragnhild Bang Nes.
