- We have to take into account the fact that the influx of refugees can last a long time, which is why the government has asked the police to create a new registration center in Gardermoen - says the Minister of Justice and Crisis Management Emilie Enger Mehl.

So far, 9819 Ukrainian refugees have registered in Norway

The new registration center will be able to register up to 200 asylum seekers per day in full capacity. Only Ukrainian asylum seekers who are covered by the temporary collective protection system will be admitted to Gardermoen. Asylum seekers are not allowed to stay overnight in the center. As of April 5, 9819 Ukrainian refugees have registered in Norway.

– Since the beginning of the war, the government has been preparing Norway to deal with the refugee crisis. We are currently expanding registration possibilities. New Police Registration Center in conjunction with Oslo airport is an important measure in increasing throughput. At the same time, we must come to terms with the fact that sometimes there may be waiting times when many refugees arrive here in a short time, says Mehl.

Decentralized registration of asylum seekers

Gardermoen registreringssenter (GRS) complements the registration which takes place at the national center in Råde (Viken). Registration also takes place in the police districts (Agder, Sør-Vest, Vest, Møre og Romsdal, Nordland, Troms og Finnmark) which have already prepared offers to register asylum seekers. Recently, the Innlandet and Sør-Øst police districts have also been commissioned to introduce decentralized registration of asylum seekers. A registration point in Hamar is being established in Innlandet, and will eventually also register Kongsvinger and Lillehammer. In Sør-Øst, registration will take place at Sandefjord Airport in Torp. Registration in the country will also be open on Easter. Sør-Øst starts registration this week.
