A new guide with practical examples will make it easier for anyone working on maintenance or alterations to existing buildings to navigate the rules.
- The vast majority of buildings that we will use in 50 years have already been built. Facilitating their better maintenance and the transformation of the current building stock will be both financially viable and sustainable, says Bjørn Arild Gram, Minister for Local Government and Districts.
Rebuilding or maintenance?
The new guide is being launched just for those who will be working on existing buildings. The guide was developed by the Construction Quality Directorate (DiBK) at the request of the Ministry of Local and Municipal Government.
The digital guide explains the key concepts in existing building regulations: major refurbishment, major change, major repair and maintenance.
The supervisor gives examples of work on existing buildings. As a result, it will be easier to see if the work to be done requires an application. The guide also shows whether there are technical requirements. All examples of jobs from minor to larger are included in the guide. Examples are, for example, minor renovation work such as replacing windows or replacing tiles, and larger work such as replacing supporting structures.
. Comprehensive regulations
- The purpose of the guide is to help you understand and practice the concepts contained in the regulations that apply to existing buildings. Hopefully responsible companies and individuals will find that the rules are becoming more predictable and easier to follow, while at the same time municipalities spend less time in consulting work and have a more uniform practice, says Gram.
The guide will provide the most practical and user-friendly tips. The emphasis is on finding practical explanations that will be useful to users. This guide was developed based on feedback from municipalities and players from construction industry.
