Russia's hostilities lead to heavy casualties among the civilian population, destroy basic infrastructure and force people to emigrate. That is why we are increasing our humanitarian aid to Ukraine to NOK 2 billion and delivering military equipment to a war-torn country. The government is also joining the EU sanctions, we want to withdraw the oil fund from Russia and close Norwegian airspace for Russian flights.

So far, Norway has donated 250 to humanitarian aid million NOK. This amount is now further increased to a total of NOK 2 billion. The money goes to the UN, the Red Cross system and the efforts of Norwegian humanitarian organizations on Ukraine and neighboring countries accepting refugees. The support is flexible, so organizations can plan activities at any time where the needs are greatest.

Ukrainians are fighting for their lives with the superpower. In this special situation, we are open to providing military equipment to countries at war. The government will provide Ukraine with military equipment such as helmets and life jackets. This is the material that Ukraine has requested that we can pass on quickly.

Please too Norges Bank to immediately freeze all investments and ensure that the Oil Fund does not do business with Russia.

Together with the EU, Norway is now confronting Russia with historically strong sanctions. They took place in several stages, and on Sunday further sanctions will be imposed, which will also affect Belarus.

The sanctions isolate Russia financially by hitting the central bank and removing a number of Russian banks from the Swift payment system. Moreover, the sanctions package will have far-reaching consequences for those believed to have contributed to the military aggression in Ukraine.

Sanctions are most effective when many countries impose the same sanctions. We are therefore in close contact with the EU and our neighbors on this issue and are working at full speed to facilitate the implementation of a comprehensive sanctions package.
