- We have to help each other when the crisis comes. We know that helping anyone who needs medical help is a challenge, and the Ukrainian health services are going through a hard test. It is obvious that Norway wants to contribute to the improvement of this situation, says the Minister of Health and Welfare Ingvild Kjerkol.

Norway's contribution to Ukraine is channeled through the EU's Civil Preparedness Program UCPM. Already with Norway to Poland the first deliveries of medical materials have arrived.

On Sunday, March 6, the EU adopted a significant contribution of essential medicines from Norway. The donation is in the order of magnitude of approximately NOK 43 million and includes a range of different medications.

– Solidarity with Ukraine is strong in Europe. The government is proud that, together with our partners in the EU, it can help repair the situation in Ukraine and neighboring countries, says the minister foreign affairs Anniken Huitfeldt.

The medications shipped by Norway are based on updated needs reported from Ukraine over the weekend, and preparations are currently underway to ship parcels from Norway.

Norwegian medical staff is ready

Norway has a continuous dialogue with the EU and European countries about the situation. Norway has a high level of expertise in deploying medical personnel to assist in emergencies.

– Our emergency medical team (EMT) is now on standby to help quickly if local support is needed health service in countries neighboring Ukraine, says Kjerkol.

As part of the European poll, Norway also reported that Norwegian hospitals can currently see around 550 Ukrainian patients, including children, burn victims and cancer patients.

Norway operates its own ambulance aircraft for the EU civilian emergency services. The aircraft is ready for European missions from March 1, 2022.

- We know that the humanitarian consequences of the war will be huge, and Norway's attitude is clear. We will support Ukraine and stand ready to make a further contribution in the coming time, says Huitfeldt.
