Stavanger is ready to help refugees

Today, the representatives of the Stavanger municipal council unanimously backed the condemnation of Russia's violation of Ukraine's sovereignty. The Municipality of Stavanger allocates NOK 5 million to the Norwegian Council for Refugees and NOK 1 million to local organizations applying for support for related measures.

The unanimous chairmanship agreed on the following statement on Thursday 10.03/XNUMX:

“Representatives Stavanger municipal councils agree to condemn the Russian violation Ukraine's sovereignty, which is a clear violation of international law. Russia's military aggression against and against Ukraine has led to great suffering for the civilian population. (…) the municipality of Stavanger is ready to help by accepting refugees from Ukraine, if necessary, also at short notice, and will ask the municipal director to forward this to the national authorities.

Eirik Faret Sakariassen made the following proposal on behalf of all parties:

"Representatives of the commune council Stavanger they ask the municipal director to allocate 1 million Norwegian kroner for distribution to various local organizations that apply for support for various measures to help Ukraine and the refugee situation. The commune director is authorized to distribute these funds.
"We are all hard hit by what is happening in Ukraine," said Faret Sakariassen.

Now we must do everything we can

Sissel Knutsen Hegdal made the following proposal on behalf of all parties:

"The Municipality of Stavanger supports the Norwegian Council for Refugees, which carries out humanitarian activities in Ukraine, with the amount of NOK 5 million."

- This is a terrible situation and a humanitarian catastrophe. Now we must do everything we can to help, said Knutsen Hegdal.

The following additional proposal from Mette Vabø was also adopted:

"Representatives of the commune council asks the commune director to analyze all cooperation and agreements with Russian entities."
