The commune of Stavanger received nearly 300 offers of vacant rooms and flats for the settlement of Ukrainian refugees.

Big hearts of the people of Stavanger

- The public's response exceeds all expectations. This shows that the hearts of the people of Stavanger are big and the willingness to help is great, says Mayor Kari Nessa Nordtun.

The commune was offered everything, both self-contained and family flats. Residents offer one or more bedrooms with themselves and their families.

- At present, it is not known how many refugees will come to Stavanger, where and when they will settle. It is still good to have an overview of possible housing offers so that we are ready to quickly and well receive those with whom we settle with us - says Erik Thorsen Hirth , Director of Real Estate in the Urban Environment and Development.

The commune initially chose to use only self-contained housing units (i.e. flats, basement flats, houses, etc., but not dormitories, basements and single rooms in the house). At the time of writing, the commune has been offered 106 such flats.

If necessary, we will contact the owners of the relevant housing units on a continuous basis. It doesn't make sense to contract everyone at once, but we'll be starting work on contracting leases soon, he says Thorsen Hirth .

The refugee service allocates the housing and an inspection will be carried out prior to entering into a lease agreement with the municipality.

Stavanger Municipality will be a tenant and sub-tenant for new tenants. The rental agreement, which will be concluded by the commune, will be valid for a period of one year. It is not yet known how many refugees will settle in Stavanger. The mapping of available houses therefore continues. However, we have no guarantee that we will have to rent all registered apartments.

Thank you so much for your big hearts!
