Norway and the EU are intensifying their cooperation in the field of energy. This was announced at today's meeting in Brussels between the Minister of Oil and Energy, Terje Aasland, and Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans.
- We had a good and constructive meeting, at which we agreed to strengthen close energy cooperation between Norway and the EU. Russia's invasion of Ukraine forced even closer cooperation in the field of energy. Working to meet climate goals also means that the energy transition is faster than before. This is especially important with good cooperation, says Minister of Petroleum and Energy Terje Aasland.
Increasing gas supplies in the short and long term
During the meeting between Aasland and Timmermans, several aspects of energy cooperation were discussed, both for hydrogen, carbon capture and storage, and offshore wind energy. They decide to work together more closely on opportunities to increase gas supplies in the short and long term.

Norway is the largest producer of oil and gas in Europe and thus contributes significantly to energy security in the EU as well. Companies on the Norwegian shelf are producing at full capacity and gas supplies are expected to increase.
"The EU and Norway have a common interest in further developing the oil sector so that, after 2030, Norway can also be a major exporter of oil and gas," says Aasland.
