In 2022, three double murders were committed in Norway, respectively in the police districts of Oslo, Agder and Innlandet. A total of 29 people died in 26 different murder cases. 35 people are accused of murder.
"In six cases, more than one perpetrator was registered, but there are no clear commonalities in cases with several perpetrators," says Vibeke Schei Syversen, head of the Kripos Violence Section.
– The numbers are relatively similar to previous years, and the year 2022 seen in a ten-year perspective does not stand out significantly. At the same time, the numbers are small, and a few cases can have a significant percentage impact, says Syversen.
The knife is used most often
There are no recorded murders in the Finnmark, Nordland and Trøndelag police districts.
– In 65 percent of cases a knife was used, and 77 percent. cases occurred in private homes. Almost all of the perpetrators were men, and only four women were recorded, says Syversen. Women are most often killed by a partner or ex-partner, while men are most often killed by a friend or acquaintance.
Increase in violence committed by people with mental disorders
In 2022, Kripos published a report Violence committed by people with severe mental disorders. An increase in violence committed by people with this type of disorder in recent years has been shown, as well as a tendency to increase the number of parents exposed to murder or attempted murder. This year's homicide tally added a breakdown of the number of perpetrators with severe mental disorders at the time of the crime.
– Of the 35 perpetrators in 2022, five are currently diagnosed with a serious mental illness at the time of the crime. That number could increase as several forensic psychiatric reports are being prepared, says Syversen.
