Norway has long been famous for the most expensive speeding tickets in Europe. Nevertheless, statistics show that the number of drivers who are speeding is increasing every year.
In 2019, UP reported 97183 speeding drivers, down from a whopping 108642 last year - an increase of a solid 11,8 percent.
Data on ATK (speed cameras) are not included, but they seem to end at roughly the same level as the year before.
Loss of driving license
At the same time, excessive speeding causes the loss of the driving license. In 2020, the number of seizures of driving licenses due to speeding increased by as much as 23%. Compared to the previous year.
Although so far there were high fines from last year, the level has increased even more since 1 January this year, and the fine is now as high as SEK 11.
This rate will be used if you are caught speeding 36-40 km / h on a motorway with a speed limit of 90 km / h or higher. This shows an overview of the new rates that you will find later in this article.
Poor visibility can increase the penalty
In addition to high fines, there are also penalty points from exceeding the speed of 15 - 20 km / h.
Your driving license will be suspended before reaching the highest level of offense. For example, if you drive 86 km/h in 60 zones or 106 km/h in 70 zones or faster, you have to count on losing your driving license for at least three months. In addition, conditions play an important role. if poor visibility or otherwise difficult driving conditions.
Forfeiture "over 36 months"
On motorways with a speed limit of 90 km / h, your driving license will be stopped when the speed is higher than 126 km / h. Correspondingly, it is 100 km / h at 141 km / h and 110 km / h at 151 km / h.
How long you will have to do without a driver's license after driving too fast depends on your speed. For example, if you are driving 160 km / h on a highway with a speed limit of 100 km / h, you have to assume that you will lose it for a year. It also means new driving testto get them back. The most serious speeding offenses are confiscated for "more than 36 months". The next step is "forever"
