It's time for a spring anti-lice campaign. Grab a lice comb and help limit the spread! Weekend 11-12. March Norwegian Institute of Health The public encourages all parents and guardians to test their entire family for lice.

– If everyone checks in this weekend to people with lice may have received less treatment more at the same time, it will reduce the number of lice cases, says researcher Bjørn Arne Rukke from the pest control department at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health.

Head lice are a recurring problem in schools and kindergartens. It is estimated that 1–2 percent of all primary school children have head lice all the time.

How to check for lice?

  • Comb your hair with an anti-lice comb (bought at the pharmacy).
  • Comb from the scalp to the ends of the hair.
  • Comb wet hair as it inhibits lice movement.
  • The conditioner can be used to facilitate combing.
  • After each stroke, wipe the comb with paper or a towel and check for lice. Once any lice have dried, they will begin to move.
  • When combing dry hair, it is recommended to stand bent over a white paper or plain towel. Then you can notice the lice falling off.
  • Have you found lice? Three ways to get rid of lice:

    • Treatment with lice treatment (products with dimethicone are recommended)
    • Daily combing of the hair with an anti-lice comb for 14 days
    • Cut hair shorter than 0,5 cm.

    Children with head lice do not need to be kept at home, but should be treated as soon as possible. Lice are not transmitted by hats, stuffed animals, etc.
