Maybe you live nearby? On Saturday, March 18, the main '' event will take place near the popular areas of Våre Strender on Tromøya in the Arendal area.

(Vårryddedagen) in Arendal is organized in cooperation with two local associations, Sjøsjukt and Våre Strender.

The Våre Strander project facilitates co-creation between teams and associations, large and small companies, public institutions, family, friends and active citizens. The aim is to reduce the amount of plastic waste in the sea in and around Raet National Park.

Marine plastic waste can be found both above and below water, in popular tourist areas and in remote bays. Beach clean-up can be done in several ways. Some people decipher using modern equipment drone and underwater scooters, others with gloves and courage.

In our work, we focus on including different groups of people with different types of needs. That's why Våre Strender is always working on various projects that go beyond organizing cleanup campaigns.

Våre Strender has been successful with the Adopt South Beach campaign, which invites both individuals and companies from similar organizations to adopt a small piece of coastline.

“Adopting a beach can have a unifying impact on a company, organization or class in addition to the ecological aspects of beach cleaning, explains Eugene Guriby, initiator of Våre Strender and Adopter en Sørlandsstrand.

– Several times a year you bring something of value to a wonderful place in the bosom of nature. Many people combine cleaning with a bit of barbecue, eating or other enjoyable activities, he continues.

But perhaps the most important thing is that participation in voluntary cleaning changes the attitude towards littering.

Guriby explains that business and companies play a more important role in Norwegian volunteering than many may realize.

– Companies and organizations have the option to set aside a few days a year to clean up their beaches or areas as part of team building and identity, explains and points out that a company like marine insurance giant Gard has been active in many ways including sponsoring local teams, who clean other places.

Everyone can help nature

Sjøsjukt's managing director and project manager at Våre Strender, Maria Waagsnes, hopes many people will come to the Spring Cleaning Day.

Now is your chance to adopt your piece of southern Norway.

– We encourage families with children, groups of friends, companies, municipalities, teams and associations to contribute to reducing the amount of garbage in nature. In addition to cleaning, it's important to us that this is a fun and social event, so bring a friend or five, concludes Waagsnes.
