This is good news for Tromsø residents as Uber, the popular transportation ordering platform, has just launched in the city. This is the fifth Norwegian city where Uber operates, along with Oslo, Bergen, Trondheim and Stavanger.

The end and a new beginning of Uber in Norway

Uber ended its operations in Norway in October 2017 after being found by Norwegian authorities to be in breach of the Transport Services Act. The company then paid a fine of CZK 5 million Norwegian for non-compliance with car rental regulations with driver.

However, in 2020, the Norwegian authorities introduced a law reform regarding the rules of competition in the taxi market, which allowed Uber to return to the Norwegian market. This reform gave local authorities the ability to set a cap on licenses in a region, which opened the door for companies like Uber.

Since returning to the Norwegian market, Uber has successfully expanded its operations in the country, introducing its services in more cities. This platform offers an easier and more convenient way to move around Norway, which is becoming more and more popular among residents and tourists.
