Norsk Friluftsliv is a federation of 18 Norwegian voluntary organizations active in the outdoors. The federation has over 950 members and over 000 associations and groups. The organizations also offer individual membership and are open to anyone.

Norsk Friluftsliv, WWF and DNT invite the entire population of Norway to nominate natural experiences/attractions they are afraid to miss in order to raise awareness of the importance of preserving Norwegian nature.

All nominations submitted will be collected in "Red List of Endangered Experiences/Natural Attractions", inspired by the well-known Red List of Threatened Species.

Organizations will then use this to develop measures and solutions to protect nature. They will be presented, e.g. politicians and authorities.

Anyone can nominate, including YOU

The last time we created such a list was in 2019. Then untouched nature, silence and free rivers were experiences that topped the list.

Bente Lier, general secretary of Norsk Friluftsliv, hopes that this time even more people will submit suggestions for experiences.

"It's about time to make a new list, so all you have to do here is submit your nominations!" Perhaps you're concerned about preserving a small forest directly behind the house, a mullet swamp that you stroll through in late summer, or taking the kids to go crab fishing on the shore, says Lier.

Nature under pressure

The purpose of the "Red List of Endangered Nature Experiences" is to draw more attention to what threatens our nature, but also to build a bridge between the commitment to outdoor life, nature and the environment.

Important natural areas and outdoor recreational areas are gradually being built, and no one has a complete picture of the loss of nature. We who travel in nature and know what this means for recreation, well-being and health, we also know what we are afraid of missing out on, says Dag Terje Klarp Solvang, Secretary General of DNT.

Nominating experiences is easy and can be done by both individuals and organizations. The deadline is April 30.

Na verdtåbevare.no you can nominate experiences of nature that you are afraid to lose.

An independent jury continues to work on the proposals

Incoming proposals will be sorted and judged by an independent jury of individuals who have a solid weight and breadth in the field of nature and outdoor living.

The jury consists of:

  • Biologist and professor Dag O. Hessen
  • Representative of the Storting Mani Hussaini
  • Marine biologist Pia Ve Dahlen
  • Secretary General of Norges Speiderforbund, Stine Schultz Heireng
  • Adventurer Jens Kvernmo

The result of the jury's work will be a list of ten natural experiences/attractions that mean a lot to many people - and which are now in danger of disappearing. Finished "Red List of Endangered Experiences/Natural Attractions" will be presented later this year.
