Temporary control at internal borders

At the request of the police, the Ministry of Justice and Crisis Preparedness introduced temporary control at internal borders. This is to take place in the period from May 24 to June 4. The background is an informal meeting of NATO foreign ministers in Oslo.

– Normal travel activities during this period will not be affected. The aim is to give the police powers to increase the collection of information related to border control during a NATO meeting, says Chief of Staff Lars Aune at the Norwegian Police Directorate

Norway hosts the informal meeting ministers of foreign affairs FOR THIS. This meeting will be held in Oslo on May 31 and June 1, 2023. The temporary introduction of internal border controls provides an opportunity for increased information collection as the basis for targeted controls. This also gives the police the ability to respond more quickly if the situation changes over a given period.

Increased police presence at NATO meeting

– Police district in Oslo is responsible for local management of the operation, and Oslo residents will naturally feel a greater police presence during the NATO meeting, says Chief of Staff Lars Aune.
