Research by Nkom shows that several phone models have trouble showing emergency services where you are if you call 110, 112 and 113.
Most people in Norway own smartphones. However, in recent times, more and more people are opting for a simpler mobile phone. Perhaps as an objection to the excess of intelligent functions? However, such a phone has its limitations. These phones do not provide accurate location for emergency services. This is done by locating mobile phones, known as Advanced Mobile Location (AML), in the event that an emergency call is needed.
Positioning of emergency calls
AML is a general term for solutions enabling emergency services to precisely locate people in need of assistance. The position is calculated based on information from satellites and WiFi networks. AML works on virtually all Android or iOS phones.
"There may be good reasons why people choose simpler phones, but it's important to be aware of their limitations," says Kamilla Sharma of the Department of Markets and Services at the National Communications Authority.
– Simple or non-smart phones can be used as home phones. Your registered address will then be given to the emergency services and will correspond to where you are. But if the phone is used outdoors, emergency services will not know your exact location and the margin of error can be several kilometers, explains Sharma.
These cell phones will not reveal your exact location
In the Norwegian market, this mainly applies to the simple versions of Doro and Nokia. Here are examples of some phones that do not give their exact position to the emergency services:
Nokia 3310, Nokia 105, Nokia 130, Nokia 3310 3G, Nokia 210, Nokia 105 (2019), Nokia 110 Nokia 220 4G, Nokia 150, Nokia 125, Nokia 225 4G, Nokia 105 4G, Nokia 6310, Nokia 2660, Nokia 8210 4G, Nokia 5710 XA . Doro 1372, Doro 5030, Doro 5861, Doro 6821, Doro 6881, Doro PhoneEasy 507
