In the second quarter of this year, 1068 bankruptcies were opened, an increase of 14 percent compared to the same quarter last year.
As we learn from the website of Statistics Norway, the highest percentage increase in bankruptcies occurs in the Innlandet region. There, the number of bankruptcies increased by 33 percent, closely followed by Møre og Romsdal with an increase of 31 percent. The greatest increase in absolute numbers occurred in the Viken region, where number of bankruptcies increased by 61 compared to the second quarter of 2022. However, in the Vestland and Agder regions the number of bankruptcies decreased by 19 and 3 percent, respectively.
Of these bankruptcies, 846 concern enterprises, excluding sole proprietorships. This represents an increase of 120 bankruptcies compared to the same period last year, an increase of 17 percent. 28 percent of corporate bankruptcies involved construction industry and construction, while 21 percent concerned trade and repair of motor vehicles.
The remaining 222 bankruptcies include sole proprietorships and personal bankruptcies, an increase of 7 percent. 44 percent of these bankruptcies were in the construction and construction industries. The number of bankruptcies in this industry increased by 20 percent compared to the second quarter of last year.
A total of 2385 bankruptcies were opened in the first six months of this year. This is 27 percent more than in the same period in 2022. The largest increase was in the culture, entertainment and leisure industry, where bankruptcies increased by 89 percent, followed by the hospitality and food service industry, which saw an increase of 67 percent.
