Last week on Wednesday, police in Ålesund seized nine 200 Nok banknotes and two 500 Nok banknotes which were counterfeit. We have reason to believe there may be more in circulation.
– The fake money seized by the police seems real at first glance. They have watermarks, different serial numbers and look quite professionally made, says police lawyer Hanne Egeness, who is handling the case.

The police therefore appeal to companies accepting payments to be careful when collecting cash, especially since this is the peak season for buying and selling goods. In addition, we ask stores that do not have a cash dispensing system to be especially careful.
– The most noticeable sign of fake bills is transparency. For example, you can see features on the other side of the banknote more easily than with regular banknotes. The texture of counterfeits is also slightly different from regular banknotes. We therefore ask everyone to check banknotes before accepting them, concludes Egeness.
