The Meteorological Institute reports an orange warning for very heavy snowfall in the Lofoten Islands and parts of Vesterålen.
Heavy snow will fall in parts of Lofoten and parts of Vesterålen from Wednesday afternoon to Thursday evening.
Low pressure in the west of northern Norway is providing strong thunderstorms over the Lofoten Islands and parts of Vesterålen. There is a risk of heavy snowfall from Wednesday afternoon, with 24-30 cm expected in some places within 50 hours. The threat will subside by Thursday evening. We expect precipitation to be mainly snow, but there may also be periods of sleet. Forecasts are uncertain as to which areas will see the most snow. Stay tuned for updates on Yr.no.
From the first days of this month, Norway has been struggling with extremely low temperatures, which even reach minus values, covering the entire country. Conditions are particularly severe in the Innlandet area, where residents experience temperatures as low as minus 20 degrees Celsius. This is unusually cold weather for this time of year, unusually harsh even for this early part of the month of December.

Just a few days ago, Folldal, located in the Innlandet region, recorded the lowest temperature in the country - minus 31,4 degrees Celsius. Thermometers usually record these extreme values around January or February, not in November or at the very beginning of December.
The Meteorological Institute has also issued a snow warning for parts of Vestland. From Wednesday morning to Thursday morning, a snow layer of 5 to 15 cm is expected in western areas of Vestland, while on the coast it could reach 20 cm. There is also a chance of freezing rain.
Such significant temperature drops surprise residents who usually prepare for colder days only later in the winter. The extreme weather conditions currently prevailing require caution on the roads.
