– This is good news for individuals and companies. In many places in the country, the ferry is its lifeblood. The government has made arrangements for free and reduced ferry fares. We are currently adjusting the advance payment amount on the AutoPASS ferry account to ensure a better link between the advance payment amount and reduced ferry fares, says Transport Minister Jon-Ivar Nygård.

In 2024, both private individuals and business customers will see their required advance payments reduced by one third. This means they won't have to put the same amount of money down as a down payment to get the discount as they did before.

The price of a ferry ride depends on various criteria. However, to receive a discount on a ferry ticket, you must pay an advance payment, which is then deducted from each trip. Currently, it is possible to obtain a 50 percent discount for individual customers and a 40 percent discount for business customers with an AutoPASS account for ferries.

Here are the advance payment amounts in 2024:

  • Tariff group 1 (vehicles from 0 to 8 meters) is reduced from NOK 3000 to NOK 2000
  • Tariff group 2 (vehicles from 8,01 to 17,50 m) is reduced from NOK 14 to NOK 800
  • Tariff group 3 (vehicles over 17,51 m) is reduced from NOK 28 to NOK 000

– The government has achieved the goal set out in the Hurdal platform. This involves providing free ferries to islands and other communities with no road connection to the mainland, as well as all ferry services serving fewer than 100 passengers per year. In addition, ticket prices on several ferries have been halved, and the government has proposed continuing this decision in the 000 budget. Now that we have made arrangements for reduced prices, it is right to also reduce the amount associated with the down payment, says Nygård.
