– A good and safe place to live is absolutely essential for people to lead good lives. We must ensure safe rental conditions for the approximately one million Norwegian residents who rent their properties, says City and County Minister Erling Sande.
Establish a legislative committee to propose changes in the act rental is one of several actions taken by the government to improve conditions on the rental market. The Real Estate Lease Act is an important law for approximately one million tenants and landlords.
New rules for renting real estate
The Home Tenancies Act sets out the framework for what can be agreed in tenancies, including the length of the contract. It determines whether the property's rent may increase each year and when the lease may be terminated. It is a complex law that takes into account various considerations and interests.
– These are rules that will apply to most of us one or more times in our lives, both as tenants and landlords. Therefore, the law must both safeguard people's rights and be easy to understand, Sande says.

These are the main principles of law, which are of great importance for the courts and the security of tenants' property.
– Now we are sending the report for consultation. I hope we will receive many good and constructive comments. The work on the elections to the House of Representatives is not over. Final committee report will appear in October, when it will assess changes in the remaining parts of the act, says the minister.
