Orange warning for locally very strong wind gusts in parts of Vestfold and Østfold

Low pressure is moving to the Skagerrak and causing very strong wind gusts on the Vestfold coast and Østfold on Friday. The strongest gusts are expected in the afternoon. Locally, gusts of 25 to 35 m/s may occur, with the strongest gusts occurring in coastal areas. Released orange warning.

A yellow danger warning has been issued for parts of Vestfold, Oslo, Akershus and Innlandet. Wind gusts of 20-25 m/s are expected in these areas. Winds should decrease by late Friday afternoon.

The warning applies to Østfold and outer parts of Vestfold from 11 a.m. to 17 p.m.

recommendations: 

• Secure all loose items
• Avoid driving in exposed areas
• Calculate additional transport and driving time
• Consider whether travel is necessary
• Follow the advice and check the status of carriers
• Check traffic reports (175.no)
• Emergency services must continually assess the need for preparedness
• Be careful when driving in the beach area and at sea
• Consider damage mitigation measures in advance

Consequences

• Objects may be caught in the wind or knocked over
• Risk of damage to buildings and infrastructure
• Ferry, plane and other transportation trips are expected to be canceled
• Bridges may be closed
• For multiple trips, travel times may be longer
• The electricity supply will be affected, for example by trees falling or contact with the power grid
• Roads may be closed due to trees or other objects on the road
• High waves may cause damage to infrastructure and buildings in the beach area
• Strong winds may also cause locally high waves in fjord and lake areas
